For Stephen, Christian faith is intelligence
of the heart. The discipline of Christian theology is a compelling response to
an image that is central to Christian faith and its relay of testimony: In
the beginning was the Word … the Word became flesh and dwelt among us and we beheld
his glory full of grace and truth. New Testament testimony, Christian thought
and experience are consistent in identifying the Word as Jesus Christ, the central
focus of Christian theology.
